About the Project: Completed in 2003, This architecturally significant facility was purpose-built with seismic resilience in mind and later served as the Civil Defence Headquarters during the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Though it sustained some damage, its structure remained intact and was fully refurbished and strengthened before reopening to the public in 2015. The building now functions as a vibrant civic space, home to exhibitions, community programs, and public art installations. Its design reflects both functionality and cultural expression, integrating art, architecture, and public engagement. As a key destination in Christchurch’s arts and cultural precinct, it continues to support the city’s creative identity while standing as a testament to resilience and renewal.
