About the Project: The Christchurch Bus Interchange, known as Hine‑Pāka, is a modern, efficient transport hub designed to enhance the experience of public travel in the city. Covering 3,500 m², the building features a distinctive folded roof form that echoes Christchurch’s architectural heritage while offering a spacious, light-filled interior. The layout supports smooth passenger flow with 16 reversing bus bays, intelligent bay allocation, and air curtains to minimize emissions. Sustainability is embedded throughout, with features like natural ventilation, underfloor heating powered by geothermal energy, and LED lighting with daylight sensors. With integrated amenities, retail spaces, and bike facilities, the interchange serves as both a transport facility and a welcoming civic space.
