About the Project: The Christchurch Civic Building – Te Hononga is a standout example of sustainable design and public-private partnership, developed by Ngāi Tahu Property and the Christchurch City Council. Redeveloped from the former NZ Post mail centre, the 23,000m² facility opened in 2010 and now houses over 1,200 Council staff. It features offices, civic chambers, and function rooms, and was the first office building in New Zealand to achieve a 6 Green Star – Office Built rating, with additional 6 Green Star ratings for Design and Interiors. As a key landmark in Christchurch’s rebuilt city centre, Te Hononga reflects innovation, collaboration, and environmental leadership.
