About the Project: The Rutherford Regional Science and Innovation Centre is a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster interdisciplinary scientific research and collaboration. Spanning over 20,000 m² across five levels, the building houses advanced laboratories and flexible teaching spaces for physics, chemistry, biology, geology, geography, and astronomy. Purpose-built for resilience, it features seismic engineering with prominent buckling-restrained braces and high-performance materials throughout. Inside, the building is equipped with specialised facilities including a drone/UAV room, cloud chamber, 3D medical imaging suite, and manifolded fume cupboards—one of the largest installations of its kind in Australasia. Open-plan spaces, glass-fronted labs, and a striking central atrium encourage visibility, interaction, and innovation across disciplines.
