About the Project: The Toitū Otago Settlers Museum seamlessly blends historic and contemporary architecture across four connected buildings. Its standout feature, the glass-and-steel Josephine Foyer, offers a striking entrance and showcases the iconic 1872 Josephine steam engine. Inside, a central spine links the restored Edwardian galleries and Art Deco transport hall, creating a cohesive flow through light-filled exhibition spaces. The design balances heritage preservation with modern functionality, making the museum a cultural anchor between Dunedin’s historic precinct and waterfront.
