About the Project: Turanga Library is the largest library in the South Island and the third-largest in New Zealand. Completed in 2018, it was constructed to replace the former Central Library, which was closed due to damage sustained in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. The state-of-the-art facility offers a wide range of amenities, including a café, a 200-seat community arena, study spaces, meeting rooms, a dedicated children’s play area, and more—making it a vibrant hub for learning, connection, and community engagement.
