CopperTree Analytics is thrilled to highlight the transformative impact Kaizen has had at the University of Otago, Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka. Our Kaizen Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) platform, has delivered impressive results, including a 15% reduction in energy-related costs within the first year. This success is a testament to the effectiveness of powerful analytical insights and targeted improvement strategies facilitated by our technology.
How it works:
Kaizen processes data from approximately 100,000 control points across the University’s diverse building stock and multiple Building Management Systems (BMS). By identifying anomalies and high energy consumption, it empowers the operations’ team to address issues proactively, such as correcting temperature setpoints and fixing mechanical faults. This proactive approach not only enhances energy efficiency but also contributes to reducing the University’s carbon footprint. Additionally, the integration of IoT devices with BMS allows Kaizen to provide insights on air quality and immediate detection of water leaks.
Recognition of success:
The effectiveness of this initiative was recognized at the Tertiary Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Excellence Awards, where it received the Excellence in Technology Innovation Award and was named the Excellence Award Supreme winner. This recognition underscores the critical role of advanced analytics in driving energy efficiency and sustainability.
By continuously upgrading and integrating BMS data with our technology, the University of Otago is achieving substantial cost savings and setting a new standard in energy management for academic institutions. The University of Otago’s deployment of Kaizen software is a benchmark for institutions worldwide to reference the potential of fulfilling sustainability targets through the usage of building analytics.
